A Sandy Bay man has been arrested and charged following an incident where he is accused of violently assaulting a woman in her residence and stealing her purse. The accused, identified as 30-year-old Ian Buchanan, reportedly visited the victim’s home on Friday afternoon without invitation.
According to law enforcement officials, the encounter began around 1:26 PM when the woman requested that Buchanan leave her property. When he refused, a heated argument ensued, during which Buchanan is alleged to have physically assaulted the woman, inflicting noticeable injuries including bruises and swelling.
Witnesses claim that following the attack, Buchanan seized the woman’s purse, which contained cash and personal belongings, before fleeing the scene. The victim promptly reported the incident to the police, leading to Buchanan’s arrest after he was positively identified by the victim.
Authorities have confirmed that Buchanan is now facing charges of assault occasioning bodily harm and robbery with violence. The details of his court appearance are currently being arranged as the investigation continues.
