The Meteorological Service of Jamaica (Met Service) has alerted the public to an area of disturbed weather linked to a broad trough across the western Caribbean, anticipating unstable weather conditions over the coming days.
As a precaution, a flash flood watch has been issued for low-lying and flood-prone regions, including St Thomas, Kingston, St Andrew, St Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St Elizabeth, Westmoreland, Hanover, St James, and Trelawny, effective until 5:00 PM on Monday.
Currently, the weather system is situated southwest of Jamaica, and forecasts indicate that various parishes, particularly those in the southern and northwestern areas, will experience periods of showers and thunderstorms, some of which may be intense. This weather pattern is expected to persist through the middle of the week.
Additionally, the Met Service warns of strong gusty winds impacting southern parishes and offshore marine regions. Fisherfolk and those engaged in marine activities are urged to exercise extreme caution, as sea conditions are anticipated to worsen due to thunderstorms and gusty winds.
The Met Service is actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary. Residents are advised to stay informed and take appropriate precautions to ensure their safety during this unsettled weather period.
