The Meteorological Service of Jamaica (Met Service) has issued a warning regarding a broad trough of disturbed weather currently affecting the western Caribbean, which is expected to bring unstable weather conditions to Jamaica over the next few days.

A flash flood watch is now in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas across several parishes, including St. Thomas, Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St. Elizabeth, Westmoreland, Hanover, St. James, and Trelawny. This watch is effective until 5:00 PM on Monday.

The weather system, currently located southwest of Jamaica, is forecasted to bring periods of heavy showers and thunderstorms to various regions, particularly in the southern and northwestern parishes. These conditions are expected to persist from Monday through the middle of the week.

In addition to rainfall, the Met Service warns of strong gusty winds across southern parishes and offshore marine areas. Fishers and other marine interests are advised to exercise caution as sea conditions are expected to deteriorate due to the impending thunderstorms and gusty winds.

The Met Service will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary. Residents are urged to stay informed and take precautions to ensure their safety during this period of unstable weather.
