KINGSTON, Jamaica — A 33-year-old businessman, Charles Brown, has been charged with larceny by trick and fraudulent conversion after allegedly defrauding a woman, who is reportedly pregnant with his child, of a significant sum of money.
Brown, a resident of Hopewell Road in Waterford, St. Catherine, is accused of deceiving the woman into believing he would assist her in securing a rental space for her business. According to reports from the May Pen police, Brown was entrusted with making monthly payments of $50,000 on her behalf, which accumulated to approximately $450,000 from March to September. The woman also reportedly incurred additional expenses for labor and renovations related to the business setup.
As preparations for the business opening progressed, Brown allegedly claimed ownership of the venture and instructed his pregnant girlfriend to leave. It was later revealed that the actual rent for the property was only $40,000, rather than the $50,000 he had been collecting.
Following the woman’s report to the police on Sunday, September 22, Brown surrendered to authorities the following day and was charged with the offenses.
