Colin Bell has announced his withdrawal from the role of caretaker for the People’s National Party (PNP) in the Portland Eastern constituency. The decision, conveyed in a video shared on YouTube, stems from perceived lack of support from some local councillors.

“I am not entering politics to face defeat,” Bell stated in the video. “If there are forces working against me within my own sphere, sometimes you have to step aside and allow others to take charge.”

Bell urged his supporters to back the candidate chosen by the PNP to represent East Portland in the upcoming general election. He had been selected by the party last year to challenge the incumbent, Ann-Marie Vaz of the Jamaica Labour Party, for the Portland Eastern seat.

Bell’s withdrawal marks a significant shift in the political landscape of the constituency as the PNP prepares to select a new candidate to contest the next election.
